Artist Textiles

We just managed to catch the Artist Textiles exhibition at the Fashion and Textile Museum before it finished today. Being in the area was also a great excuse to visit Maltby Street food market and fill up on Mexican street food, wander round in the blazing sunshine and sample lots of tasty goodies from Swiss cheeses to gin.

Featured artists whose designs adorned fabrics - both fashion and furnishing in the exhibition ranged from Raoul Dufy, Duncan Grant and Vanessa Bell in the early 20th Century through to Salvador Dali, Picasso, Matisse and Miro in the mid 1940s and beyond.  It was startling how many of the designs wouldn't look out of place on the catwalk today as big, bold brushstrokes reminiscent of those early designs are re-interpreted in new variations and colourways today.
