From sketchbook to repeat textile pattern

There's been a big gap between posts due to a house move and Christmas break. Here's the first post of 2017, which takes inspiration from print and pattern sketched at the recent Jazz Age exhibition at the Fashion and Textile museum where I'm a visitor services volunteer once a week. I sketch patterns and textiles during rare quiet times in the gallery. It's so good to use historical objects to sketch directly from. Here's an evolution of the finished textile design, including photos of the display items.

The sketched design was scanned in and initially coloured in monotones, using the fill tool in Photoshop, adding colour, then depth and texture using a brush tool, working up some colourways and finally a tonal blues version which I think is the most commercial
