I went to the private view of the Sonia Delaunay retrospective at Tate Modern on Tuesday. She worked across many disciplines including fashion, textiles, fine art, costume and set design, advertising and interior decoration. Her aesthetic concentrates on geometry and abstraction and she favours a primary colour palette. What struck me was how contemporary her designs look today, particularly the mirrored patterns and the sport luxe aesthetic. Clearly her fabric designs still have a big influence on designers today.
